The University of Münster officially bore the name Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, or WWU for short. It was named after Wilhelm II, during whose reign the university was once again elevated to university status. However, the person and governmental actions of the last German emperor are controversial. For this reason, the university wants to put its relationship to its namesake up for discussion as part of the exhibition.
On October 1, 2023, the University of Münster said goodbye to its old name.
